We could choose the mediating approach, perhaps Vulcans go thru Kaas Waan as a youth, and later in adulthood go thru a much more difficult Tal'oth as an adult/young-adult. Can we not also say that it's really an aspirated t, in /tal'oth/, but in some dialect it's pronounced as a fricative allophone? >I'm probably being influenced by a generalized distaste for the show, >though, so there's no need to take me entirely seriously in this matter >unless it meets with overwhelming agreement. Well, I don't have any particular need to include this word, except a kind of generalized lack of ease for ignoring what seems like a canon reference. Although, considering the lack of good writing on the show, I also feel a certain desire to ignore the show entirely. FWIW, we have gotten more Vulcan material off of Voyager, than all of TNG and DS9 combined. Not that it's been terribly satisfying, but still.
